Holidays are here

You know that Christmas is just around the corner when those scintillating lanterns (creatively-crafted by Lasallians no less) are put up on the ceiling of Central Plaza and if you tend to inject some color and personality to your everyday wardrobe.
Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

DLSU's BEST DRESSED: Ecks Abitona

Ecks Abitona | ID 109 | BS Advertising Management

How do you describe your style?

"A little edgy, a little boho, a little glam, basically a little bit of everything."

What are your staple clothing items for school?

"I have this intense affection for any clothing item that is black. First off would be my black satchel. It's incredible how easily I can pair it with any top, any shoe or any skirt. Second would be my favourite LBD (little black dress). Not only is it a must for women but it's also something very versatile that you can wear at any place or any occasion. You can just simply wear it with a kimono or a slender sweater, subtle accessories and you're good to go to school or even a dinner date. Last and definitely not the least would be my trusty black combat boots that often brings out the androgynous side of me."

What are your all time favorite trends?

"I can and will probably never get enough of maxi skirts, bodycon dresses, color blocking, combat boots and THE leopard prints that we're oh-so fond off."

Who are your style icons?

"The goddess of minimalism and grunge: KATE LANPHEAR. It astonishes me how she can be androgynous and glamorous at the same time. No one does it better than her. I also look up to Carine Roitfeld, Rachel Zoe, Alexa Chung, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kate Moss and Rumi Neely."

Can you give some tips to your fellow Lasallians on how they can dress up for school without compromising both style & comfort?

"Stock up your closet on basics! It's a necessity because you can never go wrong with it. At the same time, just be yourself and don't be afraid to take risks. Fashion doesn't have rules. Translate your personality into your own style and with confidence, you'll be the talk of the town!"

DLSU's BEST DRESSED: Cristina Decena

Cristina Decena | ID 110 | AB International Studies- Major in American

How do you describe your style?

"I've always had a fancy for dressing up. I make sure to add eccentricity to my outfits, something that would set me apart from the crowd, say a pair of heart shaped sunglasses or eye-catching statement rings. I have no style in particular because fashion fads are ever so changing but something that I can say about my style is that it is whimsical. Today, I can either be Mary Kate or Ashley, donning braids and a maxi. The next day, I can be Lady Gaga, rocking a studded leather jacket and sultry red lips."

What are your staple clothing items for school?

"One of my school must haves are my Ray-Ban sunglasses. We only have one set of peepers so we gotta protect them from the scorching Taft sun. Also, my favorite wedges as they make me voguish without having to sacrifice comfort."

What are your all time favorite trends?

"I am very ecstatic about the color blocking trend hitting the runways once more because I adore playing with colors. This trend along with animal prints, over-sized sunglasses, statement necklaces and sexy tousled hair."

Who are your style icons?

"The ever so stylish people on Lookbook.nu plus local and international fashion blogs I follow serve as my inspiration when dressing up day to day."

Can you give some tips to your fellow Lasallians on how they can dress up for school without compromising both style & comfort?

"It helps to invest on key pieces such as plain tops, well-fitting jeans and dainty ballet flats. Wear breezy fabrics and stay away from sweaters as you will feel like an oven. Embellish dull colors with striking accessories. The goal is to look chic and feel carefree at the same time."

DLSU's BEST DRESSED: Tina Malabanan

Tina Malabanan | ID 108 | BS Psychology

How do you describe your style?

I would describe my style as eclectic. I’d like to keep an open mind; it’s more exhilarating that way! Although I’m a mood dresser, I don’t plan my outfits ahead of time. The joy of mix-matching trinkets, garments and just getting my closet all messed up minutes before heading to an event is a routine for me. Scouring for the perfect top or trousers in a pile of clothes is my quirky way of relieving stress.

What are your staple clothing items for school?

I think, especially for the cold rush of the “ber” months it’s a must to keep yourself warm with cozy knitted piece of clothing that you can wear with classic items or you can go for its dressier alternative, a tailored blazer. And to get through the day, you can always depend on your trusty pair of flats that is very versatile. It would certainly please your hardworking feet that have been bringing you from one class to another, building to building.

What are your all time favorite trends?

For now, I’ve been leaning towards more feminine articles of clothing like nude colored dresses. I love this new trend because you can accent it with statement necklace. These chunky necklaces is one of my current splurge items, it can significantly change your look. They say it’s a lazy girl’s go-to piece to enhance a simple outfit to get a more chic effect, if so, why not do it in excess. Aside from that, I think the perfect shade or lip color is enough to send the message.

Who are your style icons?

Locally, I love the work of the very sophisticated stylist Liz Uy and entrepreneur Divine Lee. Internationally, I love Rachel Zoe’s style and how she manages to mix timeless pieces with present trends. Anna Della Russo is another well-known name in the fashion industry that links her to eccentric and unconventional style; she is a good source of inspiration.

Can you give some tips to your fellow Lasallians on how they can dress up for school without comprising both style & comfort?

Comfort does not have to mean sloppy, know your silhouettes and proportions. Just don’t be afraid to play with colors and textures. You don’t have to combine bold pieces and extravagant prints to get that “wow” outfit. A clever mix of soft colors and textures can both be refreshing, confidant and enough to make a statement. And of course, create your own fashion story and go ahead and share it.

DLSU's BEST DRESSED: Patricia de Leon

Patricia de Leon | ID 109 | AB Communication Arts

How do you describe your style?

"In a nutshell, it would be Parisian chic, edgy minimalism, casual cool downtown, and grunge. My style is constantly changing but I always keep in mind to keep it balanced, clean, tasteful, youthful and sophisticated. Currently, my outfits revolve around neutrals and basics."

What are your staple clothing items for school?

"HIGH HEELED SHOES AND BASIC CLOTHING! You could never have enough high heels and different variations of basics. I’d wear anything black, grey, white, taupe, beige and trusty black high heeled booties."

What are your all time favorite trends?

"The androgynous look, A/W 2010-2011 New Minimalism, Alexander Wang’s 90’s grunge, structural, Herve Leger Fall 2009 body-con, Gucci Fall 2007 50s Glamour, Proenza Schoulder’s Spring 2008 utilitarian. I love wearing body-con skirts, structured blazers, loose shirts, black leather booties, platforms and gold accessories."

Who are your style icons?

"I draw inspiration from fashion icons Kate Lanphear, Kate Moss, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Victoria Beckham, and Rachel Zoe. As for the bloggers, I look up to Victoria Törnegren, Rumi Neely of fashiontoast, Andi Torres of Style Scrapbook, Kookie Buhain of Death by Platforms, Sabrina of afterdrk, Sandra of 5 inch and up, and Camille Rushanaedy of childhoodflames. Model-off-duty looks also appeal to me!"

Can you give some tips to your fellow Lasallians on how they can dress up for school without comprising both style & comfort?

"Invest on basics instead of splurging on trendy items because it’ll just end up hanging there in your closet while quality basics would last you a life time! Then play up your outfit with some amazingly beautiful shoes and finish it off with the right accessories. And lastly, when in doubt, WEAR BLACK. And always have great hair."

DLSU's BEST DRESSED: Yuki Tansengco

Yuki Tansengco | ID 109 | BS Marketing Management

How do you describe your style?

"I believe nothing is completely original - they are products of certain "inspirations". With my clothing choices, I look for inspirations in print and online. If I like something, I will use it as my "peg" then tweak it to mirror my taste. I choose comfort over style - ALWAYS."

What are your staple clothing items for school?

"Staple items are very essential so make sure you invest in these pieces. Mine are dark jeans, black flats and a brown leather bag. So when I am pressed for time, I just thrown on the first top I see and wear these items - they always go together."

What are your all time favorite trends?

"I don't really follow trends since they're temporary/seasonal but since fashion always repeats itself, there are some pieces that I would store in my closet and always be game to wear. My favorite trends are the wide-leg pants and pieces with animal prints on them. I am a comfort over style person so I need to wear clothes I can move with. I love leopard and zebra prints but make sure they are worn in moderation or else you'll look like an old lady who has 46 cats."

Who are your style icons?

"For style icons, I like browsing the looks of Karla Deras and Doina Ciobanu. Their outfits range from casual days to dress-up events but their picks are always tasteful."

Can you give some tips to your fellow Lasallians on how they can dress up for school without comprising both style & comfort?

"I am one of those people who go through at least one day of the week just death staring the closet thinking of what to wear. Even though faced with a packed closet, I deny every piece and somehow convince myself of not having anything to wear. The truth is, fashion is always an option. Whether you're just submitting a paper or staying in school for 6 classes, you have the choice to look good. You don't have to be very stylish but make sure you look presentable and you feel good in what you wear - may it be a simple top and jeans."

DLSU's BEST DRESSED: Vern Enciso

Vern Enciso | ID 109 | AB International Studies- Major in European

How do you describe your style?

"I would describe my style as something very classic and girly mixed with trends. I love incorporating trends and mix and match it to make it look classy and girly. I love lace, nudes, heels, nice bags and blush colors. I like looking clean and polished. However, I like colors as well, I love electric blue, deep violet, orange and red."

What are your staple clothing items for school?

"A good pair of jeans, my LV speedy bag, stand out accessories, a good pair of nude and black flats, a black and nude blazer and plain sheer tops and polos."

Who are your style icons?

"Liz Uy and Whitney Port. I personally think that my style is a mix of both of them. Liz Uy is very structured, trendy and classy which is a big part of how I dress up but Whitney Port's style is my inspiration to make it a bit more of my age. Her girly prints and soft colors makes me look 18 still. haha"

Can you give some tips to your fellow Lasallians on how they can dress up for school without comprising both style & comfort?

"Invest on good jeans, comfortable flats in different colors, a pair of gold or silver gladiators, plain skirts and plain tops. You can mix and match all of them and just make it more of your personality by pairing it with accessories that you think makes it you. Show your personality through your clothes and be yourself. Dont be pressured by the different people in school, you should always remember to dress for yourself and nobody else. We're in a university wherein diversity is one factor that makes us unique. So just wear what you want, smile and work it."

DLSU's BEST DRESSED: Renzo Navarro

Renzo Navarro | ID 109 | BS Civil Engineering- AB Multimedia Arts (CSB)

How do you describe your style?

"Nothing too flashy. I try to stay boring. Frankly I don't know how to describe it but people have said the way I dress (recently) is hipster. Sometimes, maybe. All I really know about hipsters is that they can be phony. Do consider looking it up. Whatever looks nice, I like. Same goes for what I wear, I guess. I hate to admit it but I can be preppy sometimes."

What are your staple clothing items for school?

"Big shirts, jeans, slip ons. It's been hot lately. I wear lots of t-shirts also."

What are your all time favorite trends?

"I love pieces with weird or uncommon details. I'd love to wear Dr. Martens if I could afford them. Sneakers are really comfy! I'd get a bunch of Air Force 1s and a couple of sneaks from Puma and Adidas too if I could afford. Let me tell you what I don't like: overly preppy get ups. I can get preppy myself but I never go for tacky (well tacky is how some people wear them) accessories such as blazers and bowties and tucking in my shirt. With a weather like ours, we're given the opportunity to play with colors and silhouettes. Leave the layering to the people from the cold places. But if you must, don't overdo it."

Who are your style icons?

"Some would be Prince Pelayo of katelovesme, Susie Lau of Style Bubble (How could anyone not love her??), and my friend CJ Cruz who had recently been photographed by Scott Schuman (of The Sartorialist) in London. Bloggers all. Please do look them up. CJ will be amused to read this. Oh I love the Japanese as well!"

Can you give some tips to your fellow Lasallians on how they can dress up for school without comprising both style & comfort?

"Forget the match. It's all about a good mix. Also, start by following trends. You'll soon discover your own style. Be what you feel like, not what you see. Don't forget to be practical and don't wear anything stupid. Never ever underestimate basics. Being fashionable is not a physiological need so there's no need to be pressured."

DLSU's BEST DRESSED: Sarah Policios

Sarah Policios | ID 109 | AB Organizational Communication

How do you describe your style?

"Anything goes but always put together and never too much."

What are your staple clothing items for school?

"My trusty cover-ups (denim jacket, black & white blazer, loose cardigan and leather jacket) which one hardly sees me without since I easily feel cold and classrooms in school aren't making it any easier for me; white top which I believe is an absolute necessity; black and brown leather backpacks since they're not only adorable but they also prevent my scoliosis from becoming worse than it already is; plain colored and black knee length dresses which are my besties especially when creative juices aren't flowing; button downs which I end up wearing whenever I wanna feel comfortable and look chic at the same time; short skirts and high waisted shorts which are easy to match with; colored and denim skinnies which I only tend to put on during long and busy days; black flats and loafers which I could pair with anything and everything; gold or silver accessories especially my gold watch which brings life to simple outfits."

What are your all time favorite trends?

"I'm caught in between boho meets grunge - think Coachella festival surrounded by all these long-legged beauties in leather jackets, printed maxis, cropped tops, floppy hats, kimonos, bandeaus, denim shorts & black combat boots - and minimalism - think Paris blown away by the chicness of a group of women right across the street in tailored blazers, clean button-downs, breton tops, sheer maxis, black and colored skinnies, lace shorts, pumps & loafers."

Who are your style icons?

"Kate Moss, Erin Wasson and Alexa Chung for getting away with just about anything; Olsen twins, Nicole Warne of Gary Pepper Vintage & Miroslava Duma for looking effortlessly chic at all times; Kate Bosworth for always looking so fresh and clean; Gillian Zinser of 90210 for being the perfect epitome of boho meets grunge style; Aimee Song of Song of Style for being so amazing at mixing & matching girly & edgy pieces; Diane Kruger and Olivia Palermo for looking so classy and polished; Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast for always looking smoking in her simple yet well put together ensembles; Vanessa of Haute Pursuit for being such a pro in mixing & matching trendy & basic pieces; Madonna for being the mother of 80's fashion (my fave fashion era!)."

Can you give some tips to your fellow Lasallians on how they can dress up for school without comprising both style & comfort?

"Dressing up is not just about looking good for others but most importantly, yourself. Be comfortable in your own skin, dress how you feel and let the real you shine! But do take note that it's a must that you know what looks good on you. Mix and match! Fashion is all about having fun so don't hold yourself back when you feel people might judge you. And always remember that it does not matter what you wear, but how you wear it. Own your look!"

DLSU's BEST DRESSED: Sam Policios

Sam Policios | ID 109 | AB Psychology

How do you describe your personal style?

"Well, I believe that my style is like a bowl of salad. The lettuce is simplicity while the sauce and other ingredients are androgyny and femininity. Finally, the secret ingredient is spontaneity."

What are your staple clothing items for school?

"Brown leather backpack , my ultimate BFF, that minimizes my stress as I bring my ever heavy Psych books but still in style. Knee length, summery dresses which are hella useful whenever I'm lazy to think of an outfit or whenever the heat's unbearable. As much I'd like to wear high waisted denim shorts to school especially on extra hot days but with the dress code's existence, I've accustomed myself to wearing knee length shorts as I enter school and end up folding it as it gets shorter and shorter when the DO's aren't around( Hope no DO reads this!). On days when I'm feeling feminine, I wear a short skirt or a long, printed/ sheer/ pleated skirt which is perfect whenever I have to go all around school and worrying about the DO is the last thing on my mind.  Long sleeve Lacoste or Ralph Lauren tops are my buddies whenever I wanna look simple yet classic. A leather jacket /denim jacket/  blazer/ oversized sweater which not only minimizes my shivering in the oh-so-cold-classrooms-of-DLSU but also, adds an extra oomph to my ensemble. Beloved black and brown loafers which are so overused yet oh so comfortable."

"A simple gold necklace or a chunky gold/silver necklace whichever matches well with my outfit will make my ensemble complete. Lastly, I could never leave home without my gold/silver watch which not only keeps me from getting late but also, will be my forever favorite accessory."

What are your all-time favorite trends?

"Deciding about what my all time favorite trend would be like choosing between Alexander Wang and Isabel Marant because both are equally amazing designers and therefore is impossible to pick on which one's my favorite. Let's just say that I'm in love with the boho chic trend and how it reminds me of my forever dream to be at the Coachella festival clad in a kimono+bandeau+ high waisted tiny denim shorts+ Marant ankle boots + a layering of Erin Wasson's lovely gold necklaces+ floppy hat+ circle shaped shades. Also, I love how the grunge trend brings out the love for indie rock in me. Imagining myself at a Passion Pit concert wearing a leather jacket over an oversized white tee with a plaid longsleeve wrapped around my waist and most especially, black combat boots are def'ly on my fashion bucket list."

Who are your style icons?

"Erin Wasson, Olsen twins, Kate Bosworth, Olivia Palermo, Gillian Zinser ,Rumi Neeley, Aimee Song, Kate Moss, Caroline de Maigret, Alexa Chung and Clementine Levy. Also, street style blogs are also a huge inspiration- sometimes real people's style is more inspirational than the latest fashion editorial."

Can you give some tips to your fellow Lasallians on how they can dress up for school without compromising both style and comfort?

"Fashion is really about intuition so if it feels right for you, go ahead and work it. But it is also important to know what suits you, it's okay to experiment with different things from time to time but do know what looks best on you. Lastly, the key in dressing up is confidence. What's important is how you feel wearing the clothes."

DLSU's BEST DRESSED: Ria Casco

Ria Casco | ID 108 | AB Communication Arts

How do you describe your personal style?

"I'd say my style is a mix of anything and everything that inspires me. But my greatest influence when it comes to dressing is vintage glamour. I love the 70s, especially."

What are your staple clothing items for school?

"Jeans, because you'd never go wrong with them. A black tee, because you can dress them up or down. And flats because I like being comfortable in school."

What are your all-time favorite trends?

"Vintage glamour. It's classic, it's timeless. Impossible to commit a fashion faux pas. O
versized sweaters, combat boots and palazzo pants are some of the more on-trend items I'm opting to have now."

Who are your style icons?

"Kate Moss forever and ever. But I also love Rumi Neely and Blake Lively."

Can you give some tips to your fellow Lasallians on how they can dress up for school without compromising both style and comfort?

"It's all about balance- mix and match statement pieces with basics. But at the end of the day, I'd say wear what you want and never second-guess yourself. If you like what you're wearing, it'll translate. Comfort comes hand in hand with confidence."

DLSU's BEST DRESSED: Cher Lui Pio

Cher Lui Pio | ID 109 | BS Early Childhood Education

How do you describe your style?

"To tell you the truth, I really don’t know my style. When people ask me what my style is, I can’t seem to pinpoint the specific style that I have but usually when I dress up, it depends on my mood, what I feel like wearing or what I want to wear specifically. Though, I do love dressing up either a vintage classy way or a comfy chill way, something that’s effortless. I guess that’s a way of describing my style. I always find myself combining the different trends with the classics. I love doing that because it gives me the chance to experiment on styling. I think the perfect way to summarize everything I said would be, versatile styling, that's my style."

What are your staple clothing items for school?

"It would be cropped tops, my black skinnies and bandage skirt, my brown leather knapsack, and either sandals, black flats or boots."

What are your all time favorite trends?

"Oh, I have so many trends that I really love so I’ll just mention some! For clothes, I love the mini bustiers/corsets, high waist shorts and bandage skirts trend; while for shoes, I love the wedges, Lita boots & Dr. Martens trend."

Who are your style icons?

"I have some classic style icons that I really love and also some modern ones. The classic style icons would be Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin, and how can you forget, Audrey Hepburn. Now for the modern ones, they would be the Olsens, Chloë Sevigny and my favorite, Kate Moss. Those seven style icons are just different from each other, unique in their own way but all their styles are just amazing."

Can you give some tips to your fellow Lasallians on how they can dress up for school without compromising both style and comfort?

"The best tip I can give them would be just to dress up the way you want to dress up. I know it’s pretty cliché to say that but it’s true! You should find comfort in the clothes you wear, that’s the important thing about fashion. You dress up the way you are comfortable with. Now, when it comes to styling, all you have to do is just be updated and be aware of the different trends, even the old school trends; and from there, you can mix and match! That’s one way of styling yourself (well that’s what I do). Also, another tip would be dressing up according to the weather; that will help you be more comfortable with what you are wearing. It’s all about knowing what style you want, or an idea of the style you want and just playing or experimenting with it."
